Copper Blog - 2023 Camp recap

Dear Evolvers,

Our six days in Copper were amazing! The balance we struck between free skiing and gate training really paid off, allowing everyone to sharpen their skills while still enjoying the freedom of the mountain. Over the course of the camp, we dedicated the first three days to Giant Slalom (GS) and the following three days to Slalom. The variety kept things fresh and challenging, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to push their limits and grow as skiers. We were lucky to have amazing weather and blue skies everyday.

We were also incredibly fortunate to have our mentor, Kaitlyn, join us on the slopes. Kaitlyn, an NCAA All-American and World Pro Ski Tour athlete, trained in the course alongside the kids, providing a great visual example and inspiration for everyone. Her presence on the mountain was invaluable, as she not only demonstrated high-level technique but also shared her experiences and insights, helping to elevate everyone’s skiing.

Off the mountain, our days were just as productive. We started the mornings with dryland exercises designed to get us moving and ready for the day ahead. The agility ladder competitions became a camp favorite, with everyone pushing their speed and creativity to the next level. It was fantastic to see how these exercises translated to better balance and quickness on the slopes.

One of the week’s highlights was our American Thanksgiving dinner at the buffet. Sharing a hearty meal together after a long week on the slopes was the perfect way to bond and celebrate the camaraderie that made this camp so memorable. Not to mention that everyone definitely went back for seconds that night!

What stood out the most was the fun, high-energy vibe that our group brought to the mountain each day. Whether we were ripping through gates or cruising down the slopes, the positivity and encouragement from everyone made this camp something truly special. It was inspiring to see the camaraderie and support within the group, with skiers hyping each other up.

The progress made during those six days was phenomenal. We saw breakthroughs in technique, confidence in challenging conditions, and a noticeable boost in everyone’s overall skiing ability. The hard work and dedication were evident, and we couldn’t be more proud of the evolution each of you made.

We’re already looking forward to our next camp together, but until then, keep that same energy and attitude as you prepare for the winter season ahead. Thank you for being a part of our Evolve Race Camps, and for bringing your A-game to Copper Mountain.

See ya soon on the slopes!
